The Swim

The Stroke and Stride is designed to simulate race day. With that in mind, we begin with a group start from the sand.

There are two distance options for the swim.

  1. Half Mile: Turn around at the .25 mile buoy. Near the Chicago Avenue light.
  2. 1 Mile: Swim out to the .5 mile buoy. Look for this buoy where Lake Shore Drive curves.

Transition by the steps then head out for the run.

The Run
  1. Follow the arrows along the bike path and enter Olive Park. Run straight to the final set of stairs and turn right.
  2. Some have found the next part of the run confusing. Essentially, run the perimeter of the fountains in a clockwise direction. If you encounter a left turn, take it. View the Google Earth KML file for details. After circling the five fountains you will end up back at the same set of stairs.
  3. Turn left and run straight to the Olive Park entrance gate. This is the turn around point.
  4. Run back to the stairs and repeat the loop around the fountains.
  5. Run back to the Olive Park gate. Exit the park and follow the bike path back to the transition area and finish line.
