Group workouts


The Chicago Tri Club hosts a number of free and low-fee group workouts.  Some are for members only (marked with a *).  Other workouts may be hosted by the club, sponsor, or just be a ride in Chicagoland.  This list should serve as your consolidated guide to all rides, swims and runs that aren't races.  If you would like to add a group workout or lead one, please contact our athletic chairs. Group workout leaders receive .5 RAV points for each workout they lead.

Swim workouts (done for the summer)

Group swims take place at Ohio Street Beach (see directions).

  • Saturdays 8:00-10:00 we have a designated club member to watch gear during group swimming.  Check the message board to be sure someone has volunteered for that day and be sure to bring your stuff to the club person before you start swimming. 
  • Tuesdays starting June 8 we will have the weekly Stroke and Stride.  This is a 1/2 mile or full mile swim followed by a 2 mile run.  Check in with the timer by 6:15 and the event starts at 6:30pm.

Bike workouts 

We have two regular weekend rides:  one starts in the city and one starts at Buffalo Grove Forest Preserve:

  • Sundays at 8am (departure time!) Buffalo Grove to Barrington, 38 miles, all abilities *  (done for the summer)
  • The city ride happens most weekends, but check the message board for the meeting point and time since it changes depending on who is leading the ride.

We also have regular rides near Madison for the Ironman course.  These rides are led by our sponsors and may cost a small fee.  Vision Quest is sponsoring rides for $15 each on:  June 20, July 25 and August 15.  Sign up here.

Run workouts

Track workouts starting April 9, Thursdays at 7 PM.*  The track is in River Park on Argyle, just west of Francisco. Click here for google map and directions (either CTA or driving).  Please note:  there is no parking on the bridge at Argyle.

During the colder months we hold "Muffin Runs":  a relaxed run (sometimes with challenging weather) followed by brunch.  The Muffin Runs will resume on Sunday September 19 at the CARA Board (Diversey and the lakefront running path).
